Matt Espy
Matt is an American drummer and percussionist. He is best known for providing the awkward, stumbling funk back-beats for the acclaimed art-rock / weird-rock band Dead Rider. In solo performance, he presents a piece called ‘Hawksworth’, featuring live percussion, samples, and sequences to create a dialogue between birds, electronics, and drums.
Born in Dayton Ohio, he spent his youth playing every genre of music he could find- playing in clubs since he was 14 and starting his touring career at the age of 18. He moved to Chicago in 1996 and continued his journey playing rock, avant-garde, jazz, and performance art pieces. Espy played drums in Chicago indie rock bands Atombombpocketknife and Avagami before finding his home with his current band Dead Rider. This is his first solo venture.
