RB Morris & His Band
Live from the Bijou Theatre
On Friday, August 21, 2020 at 8 PM, RB MORRIS, Knoxville’s “songwriter’s songwriter” and first Poet Laureate will launch ‘Sites & Sounds’, the Big Ears Festival’s new series of streaming concerts and events. The concert — featuring RB and his band — will be taped on the stage of the city’s iconic 111-year-old Bijou Theatre. RB will perform the cinematic “dust bowl” tunes from his acclaimed new record, Going Back To The Sky.
Lucinda Williams called Morris “the greatest unknown songwriter in the country”; he has been widely heralded by his peers while maintaining a passionate and devoted cult following for decades. The late John Prine signed RB to his Oh Boy Records label, releasing his first full-length recording. A few years ago, Prine also recorded RB’s song, ‘That’s How Every Empire Falls’, which was then covered by Marianne Faithfull, encouraged by the late producer (and RB fan) Hal Willner. Steve Earle said simply, “RB Morris is the reason I started writing poetry.”
The concert stream of RB Morris live from the Bijou will be available through NoonChorus. Tickets are priced at $10 (plus service fees) in advance, then $12 (plus service fees) on the day of performance. After the initial broadcast on Friday, August 21 at 8 PM (EDT), the stream of the concert will be available on-demand beginning at 10 PM (EDT) that evening and continuing through 12 Midnight (EDT) on Monday, August 24. The show can streamed by clicking on the ticket button above.
Proceeds from the stream benefit the Big Ears Festival, the Bijou Theatre, and the artists.
