Rica Chicha
Andrea Kukuly Uriarte is a Peruvian-American guitarist and singer from Knoxville, TN. As a child, they had to immigrate from Peru to Argentina and then finally to the U.S driven by different tumultuous political circumstances each time. Growing up in Knoxville, they went through a long journey trying to reconcile their many identities and roots through music by playing many different styles throughout the years. After spending a long time playing the music of Django Reinhardt and establishing the first salsa band in Knoxville, Rica Chicha is finally born.
Rica Chicha’s sound is inspired by the psychedelic Peruvian cumbia groups of the ‘60s and by Argentinian and Peruvian folk, punk, rock, and ska from the ‘80s and ‘90s. They will electrify you with originals as well as with genre-defying versions of many other songs from around the world. From the jungles of Peru to the mountains of the Appalachias, Rica Chicha makes music with no borders.
