Harder, not smarter. Pain specialists. The junk-drawer of rock and roll. The Drips are better than you think.
This high wire act from Knoxville is led by the uneditable Steve Gigante, steering a torrent of proselytization from between hardhat and tap shoe—with 6 and 4 string guitar work of pure fool’s gold. Right behind him, and to the left is The Drips’ hexing and slippery backbone: Damion Huntoon on bass, and Jason Boardman on drums provide a tumbling, hypnotic stutter that drives the trio to carom off the guardrail with an awkward tension while still retaining the soul of a true rock band. Every show is a live display of accidental show business that will start to make sense right at the point you lose interest. Don’t worry about it.
