Big Ears Artists will take the stage at the WDVX Blue Plate Special for a free lunchtime concert. The WDVX Blue Plate Special® is a live performance radio show held at noon, with your host Red Hickey Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and on Saturday at Visit Knoxville with host Sean McCollough.  On Fridays WDVX takes the Blue Plate Special to Barley’s Taproom & Pizzeria for “The Big Plate”. It’s always free to join in so please don’t be shy. Make yourself at home as part of the WDVX family. Saturday, March 29th’s Blue Plate Special features Magic Tuber Stringband & Gladson Family Band

Magic Tuber Stringband, from North Carolina, are Courtney Werner, Evan Morgan, and Mike DeVito. The trio are at the forefront of artists inhabiting the rich, living musical traditions of the Appalachian region, not as preservationists, but as fluent speakers shaping the forms with their inventive new ideas. The music, contemporary in nature, shares a through line with its history in both technique and in inspiration.

The Gladson family resides in Hancock County Tennessee and plays various styles of traditional music, including old-time, fiddling, gospel, singing and traditional bluegrass. The family keeps the authentic spirit of the music alive. I performing regularly at Heritage events and festivals and revivals and funerals. They also help carry on the tradition by teaching traditional music through the Hancock, JAM (Junior Appalachian Musicians ) program.  The children, Harlen (17), Lindy (15), and Lemuel (13) have grown up playing multiple string instruments and harmony singing with their family.
