BE 2026

Nathalie Joachim & Caroline Shaw

These two delightful composers, singers, and instrumentalists are responsible for some of the year’s most wonderful music and we couldn’t be more pleased to have them as part of Big Ears 2020.

A Haitian Music Oral History That Bends Space and Time
Many of you know Nathalie Joachim as singer / flautist with eighth blackbird – and now you can add “brilliant composer” to her resumé. Her rich and powerful tribute to her Haitian roots, “Fanm d’Ayiti,” is a triumph, which she will bring to the stage with at Big Ears with the Spektral Quartet. Caroline Shaw and the Shock of the New
Caroline Shaw – who was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for music in 2013 – performed at this past year’s Big Ears as a member of the vocal ensemble, Roomful of Teeth. This year, she returns with her collaboration with Sō Percussion…and her string quartet, “Orange,” was just released this past April on Nonesuch. Read more here.
