REMEMBERING 2023 / A GLIMPSE OF THINGS TO COME
Noteworthy Performances
Throughout the year, we’ve shared exciting reviews of performances by artists who will be with us at Big Ears 2024. Here are a few glimpses into what are sure to be festival hightlights this coming March.
“Laurie Anderson Gets Back to Having a Good Time”

Laurie Anderson, one of America’s most renowned and daringly creative music pioneers, will make her way back to Big Ears Festival in 2024, with her latest Project Let X = X with visionary jazz quartet Sexmob. Her performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in October was enthusiastically received, with critics calling it both “mesmerizing” and “cathartic”. We are thrilled to present “Let X = X on Friday, March 22 at Big Ears. Also, Sexmob will perform their own set the following day and Laurie seems to have a surprise or two up her sleeve as well.
“Christian McBride’s Trio at Wigmore Hall”

In what was only their second performance together but clearly a dazzling one, Christian McBride’s new trio with Rhiannon Giddens and Francesco Turrisi offered a tantalizing program with classics from Bessie Smith and Nina Simone as well as recent tunes from Giddens. This trio is something of a Big Ears dream-come-true and we’re thrilled to present their North American debut performance on Saturday, March 23.
“At 50 Kronos Quartet is Still Playing for the Future”

Kronos Quartet is celebrating five decades of boundary-defying musical innovation and we’re still bummed that we missed this performance in early November at Carnegie, featuring an astonishing gathering of past collaborators. We cannot wait to experience this unique celebration of their 50 years at Big Ears on March 23.
Remembering 2023
We’re looking back on some of our favorite moments from Big Ears Festival 2023 as well as Our Common Nature: An Appalachian Celebration with Yo-Yo Ma and Friends via the recap video produced by Loch & Key Productions. The festival returns March 21 – March 24, 2024.
