Watch: Mary Halvorson, Okkyung Lee and Maria Grand Perform at The Stone

There are so many moods, textures, ideas, and themes at work here in this 45-minute trio set from guitarist Mary Halvorson, cellist Okkyung Lee, and saxophonist María Grand. At times, it is so delicate that it seems to sparkle, reflecting the very light in the room itself; elsewhere, though, it is an outburst, all three instruments locked in a fiercely delivered lesson. Recorded at New York’s The Stone in October but only now making its way online, it’s an incredible listen if, like us, you weren’t in the room yourself. Halvorson returns to Knoxville in March for Big Ears 2019.
