Listen: International Contemporary Ensemble’s Aequa, a Collection of Works by Anna Thorvaldsdottir

In last week’s holiday hubbub, you might have missed what we had to say about the International Contemporary Ensemble’s new Aequa, a collection of works by brilliant Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir. In these pieces, which range in size from solo prepared piano to a large ensemble, Thorvaldsdottir creates miniature worlds of sound, where each instrument or passage works and lives as part of a wondrous hole. Players share and trade melodies. Tones expand outward like breaths. Give it a read. Look for the record in the comments. See ICE play Thorvaldsdottir’s work at Big Ears 2019.
