Home and Away

What does it mean to speak of home in your music? How can traditions and cultural legacies feed the creative process, and when is it important to confront or even walk away from them? How might an artist productively explore a style or a musical canon that originated far from her own points of origin. This panel brings together artists whose music might be classified as “roots,” “Americana” or “folk” but who challenge those forms and communities to think beyond the usual stereotypes.
