Artist Addition: Jason Moran & Milford Graves
More than three decades separate the percussionist Milford Graves and pianist Jason Moran, but the enthusiastic improvisors will collaborate for the first time ever at Big Ears in a long-overdue rendezvous. Though the duo were born in vastly different regions of the country to disparate interpretations of jazz’s role and vitality in society, they share the same open-ended approach to jazz, treating it less as a specific form and more as an adaptable vessel for personal expression. This performance is a must-see at the festival this spring.
