BIG EARS

BIG EARS 2022 OPENS THURSDAY!

After three years away, we can’t wait to welcome you back to the festival! Some are already here: Damon Locks Black Monument Ensemble came in Saturday afternoon for residency, Lakou Mizik and RAM landed last night, The Preservation Brass are in Knoxville sharing New Orleans music traditions, Aurora Nealand is working on a project with students at Fulton High School, and Shabaka Hutchings is in rehearsals with the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. The momentum is building. We’ll see you soon!

AT KMA: ZORN IN CONVERSATION

We are pleased to announce the addition of a very special conversation to the festival: At 5:30pm on Friday in the Knoxville Museum of Art, John Zorn will be interviewed by Nate Chinen, editorial director at WBGO, for a future episode of NPR’s Jazz Night in America

ENSEMBLE DAL NIENTE with KEN VANDERMARK

On Saturday and Sunday at the Museum, the Chicago new music collective, Ensemble Dal Niente, and acclaimed saxophonist / improvisor Ken Vandermark, will offer a series of free concerts. In addition to improvised sets, they’ll perform Anthony Braxton’s Ghost Trance Music, as well as music by Alvin Lucier, Jeff Parker, and George Lewis, along with other work. A different piece will be performed every hour on the hour, starting at 10:00am and running until 5:00pm on Saturday and starting at 1:00pm and running until 5:00pm on Sunday
