BIG EARS ARTISTS WIN AT IBMA AWARDS
BIG EARS PARTNERS WITH ESSENTIAL TREMORS FOR 2023 ARTIST SERIES
Béla Fleck picked up four awards at last week’s IBMA Bluegrass Music Awards, including Album of the Year for My Bluegrass Heart, which he will perform at Big Ears 2023. Fleck also took home awards for Instrumental Group of the Year, Instrumental Recording of the Year (featuring Sam Bush, Stuart Duncan, Edgar Meyer, and Bryan Sutton) and, of course, Banjo Player of the Year.
“Things grow and they change,” Fleck told Rolling Stone. “You are just part of an evolution, and you just have to do your best to make sure that what you do has some meaning. You’re seeing a lot of people that are feeling very free to go on their own — I think that’s where we need to be.” This adventurous and open approach to music is one of the many reasons we love having him at the Big Ears Festival.
Other Big Ears artists had a good night: Bluegrass phenom Sierra Hull won Mandolin Player of the Year and her husband / bandmate Justin Moses was honored as Resophonic Guitar Player of the Year. Both Hull and Moses will join Fleck at Big Ears for My Bluegrass Heart in addition to performing with Hull’s full band, as well.
