BIG EARS

Big Ears at Boyd’s Jig and Reel

Boyd’s Jig and Reel is a Scottish pub in the grand tradition—a lively gathering place that celebrates the Scots-Irish heritage of our region. Offering a truly world-class selection of Scotch whiskey along with a delicious menu inspired by classic British pub cuisine, the Jig & Reel hosts nightly performances and lively jam sessions that celebrate and preserve the musical traditions of Appalachia.

Singer-songwriter Jake Xerxes Fussell is in residence and will perform all four nights of the festival. Cellist Dave Eggar performs twice joined by the likes of Parker Hall & Cruz Contreras along with a rotating ensemble of notable guests. Guitarist Wendy Eisenberg plays an intimate solo set. Larry & Joe showcases the work of celebrated Venezuelan folk singer & harpist Larry Bellorín and bluegrass veteran Joe Troop, performing twice over the weekend. Singer-Songwriter Peter One is currently based in Nashville but this Côte d’Ivoire born musician was once one of the most popular artists in West Africa, selling out stadiums with his take. You’ll have two chances to see why he’s recently been sharing the stage with the likes of Jason Isbell.

Shane Parish should be a familiar name to Big Ears audiences thanks to his former appearances with the prog-based Ahleuchatistas, this year he will be showcasing his songwriting skills alongside the singular voice of his guitar work. Luke Schneider is one of the leading pedal steel guitar players, sharing the stage with artists like Margo Price, Orville Peck, and William Tyler; his solo work creates a unique type of music dedicated to the quiet power of the present moment. In the 70’s the Staples Jr. Singers broke from the tradition of soul gospel to testify with the groove, their incantatory funk still holds the power to help make a way out of dark and troubled times. If ambient country interests you, then SUSS will allow you to look & listen beyond the horizon twice during the festival weekend. Last, but certainly not least, there are two opportunities to catch Lake Street Dive’s Bridget Kearney’s new melodic trio BB Wiseley

Of course, we may have a surprise concert up our sleeve for Boyd’s Jig & Reel as well, so keep your eyes on the schedule.
