BE 2026

Braxton@75 at Big Ears

Composer / saxophonist / bandleader / visionary Anthony Braxton celebrates his 75th birthday next June and we’ll be hosting an early celebration with him throughout the Big Ears weekend. Highlights will include an all-too-rare solo saxophone recital, a performance by his ongoing Diamond Curtain Wall trio, and the world premiere of new work from his Thunder Music Ensemble. We’ll be telling you more about all of this in the coming weeks. In the meantime, we wanted to share these two excellent articles from earlier this year, where the MacArthur Grant “genius” grantee and NEA Jazz Master talks about his recent collaborations with Wilco’s Nels Cline and Deerhoof’s Greg Saunier, his love of Captain Beefheart, his Ghost Trance music, and a new opera that he acknowledges he may never hear performed.
