JG Thirlwell + Ensemble
“For over 30 years, JG Thirlwell has been making music both complex and primal, but always maintaining a reek of noir.. ” – VICE
JG Thirwell is just one of the many monikers this Brooklyn-based Australian performer, composer, and producer uses as a vehicle for his music. Known for juxtaposing a variety of different musical styles, Thirlwell has released over thirty albums and has produced, remixed, collaborated, or arranged for a wide variety of artists including Mivos Quartet, Swans, Nick Cave, Lydia Lunch, and Simon Hanes. His first project – and perhaps best known – Foetus, has nearly a dozen albums under its belt, and melds post-punk, experimental, and avant-garde. Foetus’ sixth album, Gash, led to acknowledgements from music journalists of its role in the development of industrial music. He performs live with several projects, but brings his chamber ensemble to Big Ears. JG Thirlwell + Ensemble perform re-imagined versions of songs from his Foetus canon and beyond via harp, piano, viola/violin, acoustic guitar/bass, percussion and voice.
