BIG EARS FESTIVAL

Exhibitions

This year’s Big Ears Festival invites you to immerse yourself in a captivating lineup of art exhibitions that embody the festival’s spirit of curiosity and creativity. These shows weave together music, culture, and visual storytelling, offering thought-provoking and imaginative experiences that resonate long after you leave.

At the Emporium, Wayne White’s Big Words transforms vintage landscapes with bold, oversized text, blending humor, nostalgia, and Southern memory. His works are both playful and reflective, inviting you to ponder themes of vanity and ego while delighting in their wit and charm.

At the UT Downtown Gallery, Roberto Carlos Lange (Helado Negro) and Kristi Sword’s Kite Symphony blurs the boundaries between sound, visuals, and performance. Through experimental films, collaborative drawings, and perhaps a surprise performance, the duo crafts a multidisciplinary experience that’s as mesmerizing as it is innovative.

RED Gallery hosts Pangrok Sulap, a Malaysian collective inspired by punk rock and dedicated to social empowerment. During their Knoxville residency, they’ll collaborate on a large-scale woodcut print, combining communal participation with drumming to create bold, socially conscious art. Their striking works, celebrating resistance and resilience, will be on view throughout March.

At the Digital Motif Gallery, Violins of Hope: Strings of the Holocaust tells powerful stories of survival and resilience. Featuring violins restored from the Holocaust, this deeply moving exhibition highlights the enduring ability of music to offer hope, even in the darkest times.

Running through most of March and open during the festival, March 27–30, these exhibitions offer a window into the intersection of art, history, and imagination. Presented in partnership with Knoxville’s vibrant arts community, they’re a testament to the boundless creativity Big Ears celebrates.
