Film Programming Additions Revealed!

The wait is over… Today we revealed additions to our 2017 film programming lineup!

We’re excited to announce the full 11-film retrospective, Jonathan Demme: Life is Performance / Performance is Life, is now available. The list includes acclaimed hits like The Silence of the Lambs and Justin Timberlake + The Tennessee Kids, plus cinematic gems such as Another Telepathic Thing and Rachel Getting Married.

A handful of new films by Jem Cohen were added to the mix, including Instrument and Museum Hours, which are sure to be crowd pleasers.

Kevin Jerome Everson’s The Surface Below, a curated series of eight short films, will be screened during the festival weekend. For viewers who are interested in an immersive audio/visual experience, Roger Beebe’s Films for One to Eight Projectors will be presented. Next, named one of the world’s top avant-garde filmmakers on Film Comment’s “Best of the Decade” list, Janie Geiser will join Big Ears for a program of recent short films, Double Vision. Flicker & Wow, an ongoing program of experimental cinema curated by Darren Hughes and Paul Harrill of The Public Cinema, will offer two separate events that highlight short films, plus a free, kid-friendly program of 16mm animated films.

Lastly, the North American premiere of newly restored Georges Rouquier film Farrebique will be screened in celebration of James Agee and the publication of his Complete Film Criticism by the University of Tennessee Press.
