Gene Smith’s Sink: A Literary Event by Author Sam Stephenson feat. Big Ears Special Guest Performers & Film by Jem Cohen

Author and documentarian Sam Stephenson will present a literary event inspired by the beguiling legacy of pioneering American photographer W. Eugene Smith. Regarded as the father of the photo-essay genre, Smith captured everything from World War II to New York’s underground jazz scene. Linked to his new book, Gene Smith’s Sink, this expansive event on Friday, March 23 at The Square Room will feature readings by Stephenson; a screening of Chuck-will’s-widow, a short film by Jem Cohen; and music by composers such as Thelonious Monk, Hall Overton, and Sonny Clark.
