Listen: Cocteau Twins and Harold Budd’s “The Ghost Has No Home”
The recently released Cocteau Twins box set, Treasure Hiding, prompted us to pull out our copy of the band’s mid-’80s collaboration with Harold Budd, The Moon And The Melodies. We were blown away again by “The Ghost Has No Home,” a woozy beauty that takes the band’s penchant for textural painting and smears it above and below one of Budd’s hesitating piano themes, which seems to hang there like a feather in the breeze. Here, the role of the wind is played by Richard Thomas’ perfect saxophone. Listen.
