LISTEN: Larry Grenadier’s “Pettiford”
Bassist Larry Grenadier is a longstanding member of Brad Mehldau’s trio who has also played with the likes of Pat Metheny, Paul Motian, and Charles Lloyd. At last, he has released his solo debut for ECM, The Gleaners, and Nate Chinen at NPR loves it. “Because bassist Larry Grenadier has been such a graceful complement and anchor,” he writes, “it might seem at first that his unaccompanied solo album, The Gleaners, is a study in subtraction. That misperception is quickly dispelled by the music, which feels complete in itself, and aglow with an integrity of purpose.” Listen to “Pettiford” now, and see Grenadier at Big Ears 2019. And stay tuned for a special surprise featuring Chinen and Grenadier.
