Listen: Music in Twelve Parts by the Philip Glass Sextet
In late January, the Transversales Disques label will release a once-lost recording of the Philip Glass Sextet performing his Music in 12 Parts in 1975 at Maison de la Radio in Paris. It’s a wonderful, vivid recording of this canonical work, and the Sextet at this point is terrific—Glass himself, Jon Gibson, and also Joan La Barbara, the extended vocal technique innovator who performs at Big Ears 2019. You can now hear two of the five parts recorded in Paris—Part 1 and Part 3—at Bandcamp, and they’re stunning.
