Marc Ribot returns to Big Ears in 2018

No, you were not just dreaming in those last days of December — it’s true! Guitarist extraordinaire Marc Ribot is returning to the festival with two of his most exciting projects: his duo with Los Lobos frontman and singer extraordinaire David Hidalgo, which seems to almost encapsulate the entire breadth and depth of American music, plus his riveting, go-for-jugular punk/funk power trio Ceramic Dog with Shahzad Ismaily and Ches Smith. Hidalgo is, of course, best known for his powerful vocals and lead guitar with the legendary LA band, Los Lobos. In tandem with Ribot, he delves deep into the American songbook, with a typical set likely to include classic songs by Merle Haggard, Hank Williams, and Wilson Pickett, along with border music classics. Ceramic Dog brought Big Ears 2014 one of its unforgettable highlights, and they’ll return to Big Ears in celebration of their first new recording in five years, due in early spring. Ribot will also release his Songs of Resistance project featuring special guests like Tom Waits, Steve Earle, Meshell Ndegeocello, Sam Amidon, and many more this year. 2018 is already shaping up to be an exceptional year for adventurous music. We have much to share before March 22-25… Stay tuned!
