Yesterday, Sunn O))) announced its new album, Life Metal, due in April on Southern Lord. We’re always excited about their records, and we’re still vibrating from their Big Ears 2016 set in the Tennessee Theatre. (The album also features Big Ears veteran Hildur Guðnadóttir.) In fact, during an interview with Stereogum to announce the record, annual Big Ears attendee and former Rolling Stone editor Chris Weingarten asked the band about that Big Ears set and how they think about the spaces they play and prepare for different live situations. “There’s kind of like a deep-cleaning bill that we send to churches after we play there, because so much dust always comes down,” Stephen O’Malley told him.
