In its wrap-up of Winter Jazzfest, Rolling Stone’s Hank Shtmear raved about 10 of the best things he saw—three of them happen to be arriving at Big Ears 2019 next month. He praised the Artifacts Trio for the way its “classical precision and avant-jazz invention channeled into an earthy back-porch jam” as it explored the AACM archives. He loved the way Craig Taborn and Vijay Iyer’s two-piano set let “an ever-mutable music temporarily embrace robotic rigor.” And The Messthetics—that is, two members of Fugazi and guitarist Anthony Pirog —“were sometimes blazing and mathy, other times chill and poignant.” We’re excited to host these acts in just more than a month.
