Watch: Avishai Cohen Quartet Performs “Into the Silence”
“Into the Silence” is the title track from the 2016 ECM debut from Israel-born, New York-based trumpeter Avishai Cohen. It’s also the tune his quartet tackles during this clip from the Blue Note in Milan, and we strongly recommend giving yourself eight minutes with it. They start with a simmering intensity but tease it, slipping in and out of tempered passages. By the six-minute mark, they are totally roiling, drummer Nasheet Waits practically dancing atop his drumkit. It’s incredible. See this righteous group at Big Ears 2019.
