Watch: Carla Bley and Steve Swallow Perform ‘Very Simple Song’

To say that Steve Swallow is an accomplished bass player is quite the understatement. Aside from his credits with Carla (and Paul) Bley, he has worked with John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Dave Douglas, and Gary Burton, just to sample. But maybe he’s not much of a singer? At least that’s the gag of this charming little duet of his with Carla. She wrote him a song. He sings it live. She laughs. But then there’s that bass solo. Give it a listen. This magnetic pair is at Big Ears 2019 as a trio with saxophonist Andy Sheppard.
