Direct Current is an incredible new series from the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., that presents challenging contemporary work on one of the country’s most esteemed platforms. Direct Current returns this year just after Big Ears 2019 winds down. For last year’s inaugural run, Irreversible Entanglements—who join us in March—delivered an incredible set, which begins with a prayer-like invocation of horns and then simmers with rage and worry for the next hour. Camae Ayewa asks potent political questions. Trumpeter Aquiles Navarro explores every millimeter of his instrument. And bassist Luke Stewart creates constant little earthquakes.
