A former member of Jaga Jazzist and a renowned bandleader now on ECM, Mathias Eick is known best for his clarion trumpet playing, his tone always expressing the sentimental heart at the core of his compositions. But in this stunning song called “For My Grandmothers,” he translates those moods to piano, keyboard, and, most surprising of all, falsetto vocals.
