Next year, ECM—one of the most transformative record labels ever, with a borderless artistic vision and an unwavering commitment to pristine sound—turns 50. As you have likely figured out, we’re celebrating their existence by hosting a bevy of ECM stars. The celebrations started in earnest this year, though, when ECM began streaming its catalogue online. To wit, Aquarium Drunkard has just released the second installment of its ECM primer, featuring 16 label landmarks, from Bill Frisell’s Rambler and Arvo Pärt’s Tabula Rasa to Jimmy Giuffre’s work with Steve Swallow and Paul Bley.
