Meara O’Reilly Vocal Ensemble

Renowned LA-based vocalists Chen, Sablosky, Landau, and Bagg perform works by composer Meara O’Reilly. The set will contain four vocal pieces, including the world premiere of a new piece written for four voices, as well as the entirety of her 2019 critically acclaimed debut album, Hockets for Two Voices. Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo reviewed the album for Talkhouse, saying it “sends you, moves you, destroys you with beauty“.

Chen, Landau and Bagg are all members of the Grammy winning vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth. Chen and Sablosky recently embarked on an international tour performing Hockets for Two Voices.

Mingjia Chen is a vocalist, composer, improviser whose debut album of original compositions, star, star, was released in 2023 on New Amsterdam Records. She has been described as “one to watch” by i care if you listen & “beautiful, mature and exceptionally coherent” by the whole note.

Linnea Sablosky has toured internationally with world folk choir Northern Harmony, and released records with Kidi Band, Stone Fruit Trio, and Wheeler, Sablosky & Pearson. Sablosky is currently working on a solo record of their original songs and arrangements of Appalachian ballads and Sacred Harp tunes.

Jodie Landau is a vocalist/composer/percussionist. He’s a member of Icelandic record label Bedroom Community and LA-based music collective Wild Up with whom he released his first album you of all things.  Jodie has performed and recorded with Caroline Shaw, William Brittelle, Ellen Reid, Jherek Bischoff, Valgeir Sigurðsson, David Longstreth/Dirty Projectors, and many more.

Eliza Bagg is an experimental vocalist and composer, and has performed as a soloist in contemporary classical music around the globe from the Concertgebouw to the Komische Oper Berlin to Carnegie Hall. She has released multiple solo albums of her own work for voices and electronics under the artist name Lisel.

Meara O’Reilly’s music has been performed at Walt Disney Hall, National Sawdust, Carnegie Hall, SFMOMA, Bang on a Can, Rewire Festival, and as part of Wild Up’s Endless Season. She has collaborated on projects for Fleet Foxes, Björk, A24, The Bauhaus, The Exploratorium, and the Cannes award-winning short film ‘Bad for a Moment.’
