The San Francisco Chronicle calls 2018 the year of the Bach Cello Suites and praises Kim Kashkashian’s versions for solo viola. “Bach’s music becomes more nimble and delicate; the great bottom-heavy textures of the cello are rarely in evidence,” writes critic Joshua Kosman. “Kashkashian’s playing responds to that shift with wondrous precision, yielding performances that are at once forthright and slightly elusive.” She brings the project to Big Ears 2019.
