Artist Addition: Jon Balke

Norwegian composer, pianist, orchestra leader, and percussionist Jon Balke has developed his compositional work by playing in various trios and quartets, as well as afro-fusion group Eólén and legendary quintet Masqualero. He soon joined the collective Oslo 13 and free improvising trio Jøkleba, and co-founded the Magnetic North Orchestra. In 2016, he emerged with Warp, where the piano is placed in an electroacoustic environment with a kind of virtual architecture around the acoustic sound. A remarkable exercise in musical possibility, Balke’s sound is a mélange of jazz, world, classical, folk, and beyond.
