Behind Carl Stone’s Music

A pioneer of sampling with turntables and computers and using laptops in live performances, Carl Stone is a key modern piece of a larger musical idea—appropriating previous sounds and ideas to create new music. In this interview with Bandcamp, done to promote his astounding Electronic Music from the Seventies and Eighties collection, he connects that model back to the likes of Bach and Benjamin Britten and talks about how Alvin Lucier influences his own electronic ideas. See Stone at Big Ears 2019.
