Boundary-crossing Cellist Maya Beiser

Boundary-crossing cellist and Big Ears vet Maya Beiser was instantly propelled to mainstream fame after her riveting TED Talk performance of Steve Reich’s Cello Counterpoint racked up almost one million views. The eye-catching performance has Beiser accompanying seven pre-recorded versions of herself and was a highlight in her solo show last year at Big Ears. A tireless performer and collaborator, Beiser’s genre-melding work encompasses everything from hip-hop production to 12th-century compositions. Her 2016 record TranceClassical includes compositions by J.S. Bach and Hildegard von Bingen, as well as Lou Reed to Imogen Heap. We’re thrilled to have her return to Big Ears for the second year in a row, performing a trio set with Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche and guitarist Gyan Riley as well as solo performance featuring the music of David Lang.
