SUNSPHERE SINGERS LEARNING TOOL
Hello Sunsphere Singers and welcome to your LEARNING TOOL!
Here are the parts you can sing. Claire Chenette will be your English horn leader, and she will be in charge of knowing when to start and stop, how many times to play things, and playing along with you of course.
We recorded some very basic audio tracks to help you remember what we sang together and to prepare for our big weekend together!
Following along on your PDF score (this is revised since our first in-person rehearsal, so please use the PDF!):
At 01:00 in Letter A is our opening CHORAL CLOUD:
Here is the STERCHI REEL Version 1 at 01:30, with the Sterchi String Band, who will be playing along with you. I recorded Soprano, Alto and Tenor – but the Bass part is too low for me! Then I put all the parts together:
Then at Letter B you rest for a couple of minutes, after which you sing MOUNTAIN SONG in G with the Hardin Valley Guitars and the Roane Choral Society, like this (all parts together):
And from there we go straight into Letter C, our second CHORAL CLOUD, which will sound something like this:
…and from there, straight into Letter D, which is a CHORAL CLOUD where you can sing any of the pitches that Claire is playing. And after around 30 seconds you can start adding some shouted words and sounds!
…and from there, straight into Letter E which we will do THREE TIMES:
At Letter F we have our “How Many People” Chorus, in four parts, like this (I recorded as much of the Bass part as I could):
At Letter G we start with our “Mountains” questions, like this:
After a minute of that, we will rest and listen to Claire play an English horn solo, then at 13:00 she will lead the CALL & RESPONSE questions:
We rest during Letters H and most of Letter I, but at 17:30 we sing our CALL & RESPONSE short words:
Then we walk onto the stage of the Amphitheater! We have five minutes to take the stage.
At Letter L we will sing this short phrase all on one note:
…and after a short pause we sing our next chorus in parts, Letter M. Here are the four parts and then everyone together:
After that we have lots of time to move towards the North Lawn and join the big group that will already be singing the canon at Letter Q. Here are two recordings, one with just Claire and me singing in canon, and another one that has a little taste of what some other groups might be doing too!
That’s the whole show! Let us know if you have any questions, and happy practicing!
