Listen: A Look Back at Kara-Lis Coverdale’s Work with How to Dress Well

How to Dress Well released a new album this month, so here’s a little flashback to his 2016 tune “What’s Up,” produced in part by Kara-Lis Coverdale. You can hear her touch here in the instrumental textures floating beneath the falsetto hook, evading the boundaries between acoustic and electronic sound and allowing layers to swell and then disappear like phantoms. “Imagine Tom [Krell] and I salivating over one of those gourmet chocolate boxes,” she told Vice about working together. “He wants the cherry center and I want the biscuit bottom, but we each like chocolate so it fits. That’s how it went.” Listen, and read the interview here.
