Listen: Curated By Clarice Jensen

During the next six months, we’ll publish occasional playlists by artists performing at Big Ears 2019. Each list will situate their own work within a larger thematic context. We start today with Clarice Jensen, the ACME artistic director and cellist whose For This From That Will Be Filled is one of our instrumental favorites of the year.

“I’ve curated a group of mostly instrumental works to surround my own piece For this from that will be filled (b). I’ve primarily chosen pieces that have inspired me in their ability to live in more than one world or context, and that manage to transcend era and purpose and genre; works that solicit somehow in me more than one feeling or sense at once,”  shares Clarice.

Clarice Jensen’s Playlist:
Cocteau Twins and Harold Budd: Memory Gongs
Popol Vuh: Aguirre (from the album In den garten pharaos)
Joseph Byrd: Animals
Laurie Spiegel: Old Wave
Björk: Ancestors
Clarice Jensen: For this from that will be filled (b)
Hildegard von Bingen: O Tu Suavissima Virga (Canticles of Ecstasy)
Pauline Anna Strom: Freedom At the 45th Floor
Iannis Xenakis: Pleiades – Melanges
Silver Mt. Zion: 13 Angels Standing Guard ‘Round the Side of your Bed
