LISTEN: Jlin and Holly Herndon release “Godmother”

A little terrifying, a tad jarring, and totally stunning: “Godmother” is sort of a new track from Big Ears alum Holly Herndon and 2019 performer Jlin, but it’s not so simple. Spawn, a new AI system built in part by Herndon, listened to Jlin’s music and began to understand its elements, characteristics, and patterns. It then generated “Godmother,” a sort of soft-focus scramble of Jlin, disembodied from her usual propulsion and edge. Listen to the surreal results, and watch the uncanny video. We’re excited to hear and see more from this project. Read more on it here.
