BIG EARS

Listen: Lonnie Holley’s MITH

In his music and visual art, Lonnie Holley often quotes or references Martin Luther King, Jr., whether using his words as the springboard for lyrics or to capture the essence of one of his collage-based sculptures. On this day of remembrance of Dr. King, who spent a lifetime reckoning with the United States as it was and not as it was romanticized, Holley’s MITH, which does the same work, seems appropriate to hear again.
