One of our favorite albums of 2018 is also one of the most challenging we’ve heard: On Uncharted Territories, Dave Holland, Ches Smith, Craig Taborn, and Evan Parker went the distance, recording six hours of fierce and sophisticated improvisations that simmer and explode and gallop and groan. It is a master session from four masters who are scattered across generations and continents. Give it the weekend of listening it deserves.
