Matt Wilson headlines this year’s Jerusalem Jazz Festival

Jazz drummer extraordinaire Matt Wilson brings his band Honey & Salt to Big Ears 2019 in March, a tribute to fellow Illinois great Carl Sandburg. But, next week, he’s headed overseas for the Jerusalem Jazz Fest, curated by trumpet star and fellow Big Ears 2019 performer Avishai Cohen. The Jerusalem Post digs into Wilson’s funny backstory, from his fascination the first time he saw Buddy Rich’s face to his early gigs alongside his brother at community function. “I sort of played music before I really learned to play the drums,” he remembers. “I didn’t take lessons until later on. I think that was good.”
