“The Messthetics are the band every Fugazi fan needs in their life”
We’re so excited to host The Messthetics in two weeks for two sets—their own trio set, and a one-time-only improvisation with the great Lonnie Holley. On a recent British tour, Louder caught up with the band’s rhythm section, Joe Lally and Brendan Canty, for an interview about their origins and the brazen, challenging technicality of the rock they make with virtuoso guitarist Anthony Pirog. “The music is very hard and we want to challenge ourselves. Where it’s Anthony’s natural thing, it’s very different for us. It’s awesome,” Canty explains. “Every night is challenging. I do totally fuck up many, many times every night, and I laugh about it every night because it is just beyond my abilities, this music.”
