These Dreams: ICE and Carla Kihlstedt

For a decade, we’ve been trying to bring Carla Kihlstedt—the composer, violinist, singer, and incredible onstage persona from the likes of Tin Hat Trio and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum—to Knoxville. At Big Ears 2019, it finally happens, as Kihlstedt arrives to perform At Night We Walk in Circles and Are Consumed by Fire, a stirring song cycle inspired by her dreams, her fans’ dreams, and the dreams of the members of the International Contemporary Ensemble. Writing about the world premiere of Fire in 2013, I Care If You Listen called it a “total immersion in the foreign-yet-familiar territory of Dreamland.” We’re so excited to present this piece.
