Watch: Behind the Scenes of Rachel Grimes’ The Way Forth

In just more than a month, composer and pianist Rachel Grimes will present the world premiere of The Way Forth in Louisville, Ken., a fitting venue as the folk opera traces the story of the struggles and triumphs of three centuries of Kentucky women. A month later, Grimes brings the full production a few hours south to Knoxville for Big Ears 2019. You can get a glimpse of the work’s scope and some of the sounds in a new behind-the-scenes trailer, but a bit of a warning: You might end up with a tune called “Good Sweet Ham” stuck in your head.
