Watch: Ben Neills Mutantrumpet Demo

Ben Neill has spent the last several decades exploring the intersection of jazz and electronic music. He has done that quite literally with what he calls the “mutantrumpet,” an instrument he designed alongside Bob Moog. With three bells on one horn and a load of electronics and switches and joysticks mounted to the instrument itself, he can create an entire band by himself. He performs three times at Big Ears 2019—in a duo with Hugo Largo’s Mimi Goese, at our 12-hour drone concert, and in Mercury Rev’s Clear Light Ensemble. Watch him demonstrate his mutantrumpet now, so you can sit back and enjoy in March.
