The interplay between Ravi Coltrane, Matt Garrison, and Jack DeJohnette during this 2014 show in Milan is enviable. Recorded long before they released their debut as a trio, they give one another room to roam during “Wise One,” from DeJohnette’s patient and simmering drum solo in the first third to Garrison’s drifting electronic fantasy as they fade toward the end. And when Coltrane and DeJohnette truly begin to tangle, it’s lustrous. This trio comes to Knoxville in March.
