Watch: Gabe Kahane on Book of Travelers and Trains in America

In 2016, the songwriter and composer Gabriel Kahane bought a series of train tickets for an 8,980-mile journey around the continental United States that happened to start the morning after Election Day. His album about that trip is called Book of Travelers. In this segment for the PBS NewsHour, he talks about the journey, why he did it, and what he learned. “Trains in America are inefficient in a way that few other train systems are,” he says. “In that inefficiency, there’s a space in which to kind of reconnect with a slower pace of life, a slower pace of thought.”
