Watch: Gabriel Kahane performs in Griffith Park

If you’re new to Gabriel Kahane’s work after hearing about Book of Travelers, the album that documents his nearly 9,000-mile train journey across the United States, it is worth revisiting his 2014 album, The Ambassador. Though Kahane is best associated with New York, he was born in Venice Beach, California; for The Ambassador, he built half-imagined, half-factual worlds from 10 Los Angeles addresses, finding characters in the shadows of past and present. “Ambassador Hotel (3400 Wilshire Blvd.)” is a gorgeous document at the end of an era, revisiting a famed hotel’s glory days as they come to a poignant end. Watch him play  from the heights of Griffith Park.
