WATCH: Ian Chang Plays “Inhaler”
Drummer Ian Chang uses his kit to trigger a symphony of samples and light sequences. Watching him from a distance, it simply looks as if he is playing the drums; with the help of technology, though, he’s able to tap a broad range of sounds. In this great video of “Inhaler” for ThrdCoast, Chang—clothed in white, behind an all-white drum kit, cloaked in pulsating colors—seems transfixed by the process itself. Chang plays his solo material and in a trio with Rafiq Bhatia at Big Ears 2019.
